This month I've decided to focus on "Mine," as it has come to my attention that my dog is woefully untrained in this area. Perhaps it was the snatching of cat poop from the box as I was standing 1" away from it. Perhaps it was the darting around me to grab a bite of cat food. Perhaps it was when I dropped a piece of turkey from my sandwich and was almost bowled over by a white missile as she did a highly admirable imitation of one of those spiders that shoots out of it's burrow to grab the unsuspecting dung beetle.
Any way you slice it, Nenya does not know the meaning of the word "mine." She knows "leave it," and is a whiz at the biscuit game, where I throw the biscuit behind me. She'll sit like a rock for that. But that does not translate to a real world situation.
So how do I proceed? Since she's already good with not going for a biscuit, do I up the ante with a better temptation? I need help on this one, because she is one determined dog, and I'm not sure of the best way to generalize this for her.
