Only 550?
Puts me in the mood to buy some now that we have the parking area paved and the sidewalk put in at the studio. Maybe I will go browse. What did you get? Flowers?

OK, nowhere near as many as 550 but: John Scheepers, Brent and Becky (sale on their fall bloomers and their perennials ending soon), Buggy Crazy, and possibly
High Country Gardens and the Lily Garden. I also mean to order some Winston Churchill narcissus and haven't decided how many and from whom yet. Hey, I can
stop anytime I want!

I love the choices you made!
Lots of naturalizers (is that a word?). The colors are spectacular I keep catelog shopping but haven't committed. There's no way I can plant anything myself anymore That's not in the plan right now, though. |

I, too, was thinking about hiring someone--maybe post an ad at the university. With some strong young person running the shovel I bet it would only take a
couple of hours, as opposed to the eon it takes me to do it anymore.

Excellent choices. The crocus, though, are among my favorites!

Well... DH is a BIG fan of BIG colors so... I select accordingly.
I'll try to get pix in the spring... never tried alliums, always thought they were a little "over the top" for my tastes, but, well... time changes things if you give it half a chance. Toni - what would you plant, given your druthers? And SN - I do the dig a trench deep enough for the biggest bulb - array a handful - cover a bit - lay in a few of the smaller bulbs - cover more. In this way, things go very quickly. FWIW.

I get the "DH liking big colors" thing. I think my yard would look like the tropics if I let Michael pick everything.
(the last rose he picked was renamed to "Dear God I Burned My Retinas"). I still haven't decided what I want...better get a move on. |

LOL Sam!
I do like those light blue muscari...don't know that I've seen that color before. I'm planting my fav pheasant eye narcissi, white and apricoty-ish colored tulips. It'll be the first spring for this new garden...a little exciting thinking of the possibilities! |

Sarah, are you feeling all right? That's a positively restrained order.
Love crocus, my squirrels eat them but I plant them anyway. Love, love , love Chionodoxia and Muscari and the species Tulip species. I haven't had a lot of luck with Alium (except for the drumstick version). What I really want to know about is Eremurus. Please, please, please let me now how they do. If you feel the need to get more bulbs* look at Camasia. They are a native species, a beautiful blue, and they can handle a little shade. *why do I feel like I am aiding and abetting by putting this down? |

Yes you are - thanks! I'll go look at the Camasia....
We don't seem to have squirrels here -not on our side - at least only very rarely. Really NO wildlife to speak of here in NH - have not seen a single deer even nearby, one lost turkey, a couple of fox and yes, as you all know, we do have skunk. So figured I would plant everything and see what I see. A few wayward tulips have come up three years now, we didn't plant them, so they have given me hope.

you all make me so jealous, I can't wait to have my own yard to garden in. Though if things keep going like they have been I may be making Jeremy plant for
me. I told the doctor to give me a shoulder amputation... he said no

Haven't chosen anything quite yet. I am one of those who tries to match, or at least not clash, the colors with my house. I know, but hey. So now I'm getting a bit more interested again and I'll go take a look. I do love your choices. Had not seen the light blue muscari. At the Commack house I had Angelique tulips, and can't remember all the different varieties of daffodils and other tulips. I"m going to look though. Be back soon... |

Ok, no idea why only some of the links work... help anyone? Tulip Angelique Stop the Car was in back around my birdbath fountain For this house I am drawn to the gold tones, probably mixed w/ some deep purples. Either: Tulipa dasystemon or Bright Gem I'd consider Bright Gem with this: Tulipia clusiana var. chrysantha Because I like a cutting garden, I love these from Colorblends: Cretaceous Daffodils: Not a huge fan, but I love the fragrant ones: Cheerfulness Sir Winston Churchill Not fragrant, but love the deep golden tone: Golden Ducat I really like these: Muscari latifolium I'm starting to fall for these (together). I think they'd really stand out on the hill against the green of the house. Sold out Queen of the Night What do you think?

Actually, I take such things into account as well... luckily we have room here so some are chosen by house color and others by what is around them where I plan
to put them. All a work in progress for sure.
I'm thinking those light blue Muscari are going to be a big hit with DH - and it's a color I really enjoy as well. A few of those links don't work... but I think those Cretaceous are very pretty...

Ok, made some decisions this morning.
Starting at the bottom of my driveway and going up. For those who've seen it, the base of the drive will get: Bright Gem (April/May)6" and maybe these interspersed here and there: Persian Pearl (April) 6" OR, just to make me crazy, these: Bright gem with Crocus Tricolor (Late March/Early April) 4" There is a burm on the right heading up to the house. Can't mow, too steep. Grows gigantic weeds, so have to decide how to handle that. Got these from Sarah's idea, just went with a different variety: Ereumus Hybrid Mix (May/June) 3-6' so will stand out from a distance So now I'm looking at bloom time to make sure I'm covered. Then I'll work into the back in some of the beds we can see through the sliders. |
