Bathing/grooming question - best tactic here? |

So, when I bathe Sadie, I groom her outside first - it's easier to clean up the mass amounts of fur.

Do you spray her with spray bottle of water when brushing her out? That helps pull the undercoat out. Or I guess the Furminator.

I find the best way to get the most loose fur off of my dogs is by line combing them. Although, even
then, a bath will loosen more fur. I bought a rubber drain screen at the pet store for a few dollars that does a great job of keeping the hair out of the
drain. You just place it over the drain and it catches all the loose fur.

In the summer I often bathe the dogs outside in a wading pool. If you let it sit in the sun before hand, the water will warm up.
For winter baths, I have a plastic thing that strains the water before it goes down the drain. I got it at the hardware store. I use it when I wash my hair, too. |

Well I line comb my Samoyeds but one tip that I just used today, in fact, is to invest in a cheap grooming table... and a hose adapter for the sink closest to
your back yard. (for me its the kitchen) I wash and dry my dogs outside on a grooming table and the mess stays outside. The only thing that comes in is the
hose that attaches to our kitchen sink so we have access to warm water. It is really slick, easy and much easier to clean up.

TI, it is even easier to bathe outside if you install a frost-free hot water spigot outside, relatively cheap and easy to install and you can just hook an
adapter between the hot and cold spigots to regulate the temp. I love it because even in cold weather I can scrub out crates, etc outside.

Okay, Jen. Here is another idea....although... it isn't pretty.... (I do this in the Winter when DESPERATE). Invest in a cheap but good doggie dryer and
table (trust me they will pay for themselves. Close all of the cupboards and put all soaps and bottles in those cupboards/drawers. Wash in the tub... cram in
the table and dryer... shut the door and go to work. You will get rid of all the loose/dead hair you can imagine and clean up is fairly easy if your vacuum has
a hose attachment. I just vacuum out the entire bathroom from floor to ceiling fan and not only do I get a clean dog, I get a clean bathroom.

Self Serve Dog Wash - best $15 I ever spend once every 6 weeks or so and I never have to clean up or worry about clogged drains. Great way to blow out all the
extra hair too.

Self Serve Dog Wash That or having a friend with a grooming shop where you can do it for free! And she uses a strainer on her drain as well. I am actually paying someone to bathe Riker today...gasp...unheard of but no time to do the deed, I line combed him this am, trimmed nails and feet and gave them FIRM orders NOT to use conditioner or put a brush to him! We will see how good they are at listening.

Triever.... I must confess that I have stooped to "having" someone else do it.... in fact, I had Taiga washed and nails trimmed for the Cambridge
shows..... Dad had taught a reliable groomer in this area on how to bathe and dry our Sammies for shows.. (thankfully, she understood the importance of
following these instructions because her parents showed Sibes) I send my shampoo and strict instructions to NOT touch anything with a scissors. She took WB all
four days but as you know... cardinal sin to allow a groomer to do that for a show.....
