We are petsitting our friends older extremely obese Lab for a couple of weeks and I was having nightmares about it, least of which was how would we even get
her into our car to bring her to our place, she is so overweight. Then there's her health problems, her medication and her separation anxiety and my
goodness, what if she up and dies on us - I'd be devastated. They allow her to "pre-wash" the dishes in the dishwasher, feed her anything
that is leftover from any meal - and yet they buy extremely expensive diet dog food from the Vet - go figure.
She doesn't get any regular exercise other than walking to the neighbours to get a treat.
We walk our dog 3 times a day, no table scraps and 2 dog biscuits before bed , and we had no intentions of treating their dog any differently, and they said
they were OK with that. Well, it's been 5 days and it's like having a new dog around
. She loves the walks, can handle the stairs in our house, keeps hoping
we'll drop some food on the floor and she's definitely shed a few pounds. She seems like a happy dog.
Now I'm wondering if she's getting enough to eat! She gets the same amount of kibble as our dog but she must weigh at least 35 lbs
more(probably much more!)and I'm debating whether I should add a little more kibble or try some veggies(I know she likes carrots)or leave things as they
are. This is quite a lifestyle change for her
