After one fairly significant period breeding working Jack Russell Terriers and a near miss with getting involved with working Border Collies (I came close to breeding a litter out of my Nell who is now spayed). I have come to believe that an intelligent, coherent national, state and local policy for licensing breeders would be helpful to all of us.
As you can see from the link these Wisconsin lawmakers are trying to implement a bill to use licenses as a way to control their state's puppy mills. Does anyone else think that breeder licensing would be a good thing? I think I remember that Joan, from the old boards said that in Germany, breeders must be licensed. As with any legislation, I think that the spirit of the movement that pushed such legislation would be the key to success. I don't think that breeder licensing should do anything but support good breeders and make it easier for them to compete with all the terrible breeders out there.
Is anyone else interested in this idea?
