"Discovery Learning
Have you noticed how excited a child gets at discovering he can make a room go light or dark by flipping the light switch? He will throw the switch again and again.
This excitement in the moment of discovery, often called the "aha" experience, is one of the keys to understanding this new approach to e-collar training.
We will design learning situations for your dog so that he can discover for himself how to stop the tap in each situation. Just like the child excited with his newfound power at the light switch, your dog will be excited to discover that he has great control over his situation."
IMHO, it seems that this trainer has positive reinforcement mixed up with negative reinforcement. He goes on to talk about
"shaping" behaviors using taps (which I don't really consider to be shaping because it seems he actually wants the finished product e.g. the dog
in heel position, etc. right from the beginning). I am a clicker trainer, so I understand that I am sort of biased here. But to me, it seems unfair to
"tap" a dog who doesn't know what you want from it. I mean, what if you "tap" for 15 minutes and the dog still doesn't get into
the heel position or sit or whatever. With the clicker, he just doesn't get his treat, so he works to figure it out. If he doesn't get it, then he
doesn't get it. I don't understand what happens to the ecollar dog who doesn't get it...I mean, you would have to stop tapping eventually.

I'm sorry you had that experience. And I'm glad you found a tool that
suits you both.
