I sat here in shock when whats-her-face said it was better for your dog to just NOT do the command than use any physical action.
I don't beat my dogs in to submission or anything, but they *will* get a light reminder if they don't do something I told them to, like sit. Other than that, not really sure what I thought of the show. Curious where they got these dogs though, and exactly what tests they had to 'pass' to get in. Seemed like many different levels of dog/togetherness. And some really odd people, IMHO....

I found alot of the people obnoxious. That girl also bugged that kept telling her BC to shut up. She was getting so angry and frustrated. I'm sure the
dog didn't pick up on that at all.

I didn't like the girl with the barking BC either. She was mean spirited. I liked the old man and whatever his dog was...some sort of spaniel. They were
calm and cool. And what is it with bull dogs and skate boards? The guy said he just took to it, no training. No real favorites yet, though. There's a
guy with a BC also. My money's on him, but a couple of those little guys have potential....they just need to take the ridiculous clothes off.
The judges went bananas over that one little dog that gave a high 5. Hey, my dog can do that! And Kelly's dog can load and unload the dishwasher, and Kenny can kayak, and someone had a dancing dog video recently. I'm thinking most on this board could win that show.

Casting is important and reality shows want are much conflict/tension/drama as possible so they will pull extremes of all sorts and throw them together and
hope something "interesting" happens.
People are also edited to suit the archetype they are playing for that show - they take hours and hours of tape and decant it down so obnoxious people are even more so when all that is over and done with. You won't likely see the kind, gentle moments from the barking BC pair or the ruder moments from the "old guy" - if either such moment existed on tape. Didn't see the show...

My sister was part of a reality show as a non-essential player, and the producers were a wily bunch. They set up some scenarios that were bound to create some
drama. Like inviting a non-invitee to a party without the hostess' knowledge.

Umm, only watched the first challenge, but what's with people frantically yelling commands at their dogs?? I know they're under a time crunch and all,
but so many of those dogs looked hopelessly confused. I really hope people at home don't look to this show as an example of how to interact with your dog.
Oh, and I second what Nancy said about the clothes. Those dogs have a bigger wardrobe than I do. If I tried to put a tie on Max, he'd eat it.

Just finishing watching it- actually think it was fun- typical reality fare in many ways but I thought the teams did well and sorted themselves out accurately.
First ones to go in the musical chairs game were the teams with the weakest relationships or least experienced trainers.
The high energy during that first challenge I can hardly fault them for... didn't see any dogs intentionally mistreated in any way. As for the physical manipulation part - I think she was disliking the shoving/pressing into place and I agree with that. Placement should set the dog up to do the action him or herself rather than doing it for them. However, I hardly think it is a "sin" and I'd rather have people follow through - however they do it - than teach the dog that response is optional. And I think Michael probably got cut, at least in part, because of the good dog collar more than anything else. If VS doesn't like physical manipulation of any kind she must HATE such collars... And the barking BC... only saw one set of shut ups and maybe she could have used different words like quiet but she certainly isn't alone with that problem or those words. Didn't seem excessive to me and she was trying. Lots of BC bark when they are excited or stressed or when their owners are excited or stressed. Overall, this is probably going to give people more encouragement to train and show folks that a variety of people and dogs can be successful. That's all for the good, IMO.

I really loved the older gent with his sweet Brittany (??) dog. Thought he was very special and what I loved the most was his voice over that all those other
folks dogs could do all kinds of neat things and maybe he was out of place. Then they cut to him and his dog who is gazing up at him tail wagging in happiness.
I thought that spoke volumes about what was important.

I just hope folks at home grasp the subtleties mentioned and not the overall feeling of the show..mind you I just got bits and pieces-enough to make me cringe.

What is the big deal with the barking dog, and why does the owner have to have some deep introspection to figure out why? That irritated me that the judges
made a big deal out of that. I watch agility trials on TV and many of those dogs bark the whole time and wag their tails.
The dogs are being asked to do things that don't come naturally to them, yet they are chastised for doing what does? Of course I'm not pro-excessive barking, but the dog wasn't barking excessively- just when it was excitedly working.

Well, the Guy at the Other End of the Sofa insisted on hitting the P button on the remote about 5 minutes into the show. I hate reality shows, so I didn't
object.

I liked the older guy with the brittany, too. But then, I'm biased!!! Brittanys seem to be so overlooked for some reason, and I just don't understand
why! They are smart, sensitive, a perfect size...what more could one want from a dog?!!!

The barking thing....so the dog barked....I don't think that was the issue. Maybe it was for the judges, but not for me. My ick was the anger and
frustation apparent in the "shut up!" Like Etta Mae says, just doing what comes natural. My dog is very sensitive....if I talk to him in a tone
like that he's wrecked so I noticed it. Her dog is probably used to it so....it just wasn't a likable moment.
