until closer to one year for the neuter. Question -- does this apply to female dogs as well as males? Other opinions as to what the best time is? Fenja is
nearly 6 months and we were planning on scheduling the appt for a spay soon. Should we wait a bit? She is a lab/rottweiler/bullmastiff mix, but is actually
closest in size to your typical lab.

I'll suggest that the best person to ask this of is your vet.
My vet, and those I've worked for, have suggested different timetables for different dogs...depending on their size, development, other issues that may have been at hand. When the vet says it's a go...then we go. |

Hi There
For females - I spay before 6 months regardless of adult size - even my giant breeds. How much does Fenja weigh now ?? If she is labish size - 50-60 lbs at 6 months - than she is not likely to be a GIANT dog down the road. Take Care, Alix |

Males don't have the complication of coming into season, so it is easier to wait with them than with females. With females, it is better to do it before
they come into their first heat whenever possible.
