I hadnt realised there was such need for blood transfusions in animals until Freddie was sick, then the vet mentioned that he could possibly need one
because his anaemia was so bad. It had me thinking that it'd be great if there was an animal blood bank the same as for us.
While i was in the vets office with Oscar getting his vaccination i noticed a flyer for a new pet blood bank (it's a relatively new concept here in the
uk), the dog bank has been running for a while now and the cat bank is being set up later this year. I checked out the website and also gave them a call to say
i was interesed in volunteering Oscar as a donor and i've been waiting for them to call me back. They've called this afternoon and we had the selection
interview, we passed
Oscar fits every criteria perfectly.
We booked an appointment for 1st august. He gets a full vet exam and blood tests, if everthing is ok he will give his first donation. After that if he responds
well to the donation he will be recalled to donate 3 times a year. In return for his donation he gets a bandana, toy, treats and loads of belly rubs. My reward
is knowing that we're helping to save another dogs life, a priceless feeling
