Rescue Remedy seems to have no impact on this. Has anyone ever tried a t-shirt or anxiety wrap? Any success? She's safe in the house, but I hate to see her miserable for the next 3 nights. I miss my energizer bunny pup.

Poor Lily - it's fireworks time |

Lily has been hiding behind the toilet most of the evening. Someone nearby is shooting off fireworks and my sound sensitive girl is impacted. Luckily, Kip and
the cat are completely oblivious. We try not to baby Lily and validate her fear, but I'd love to help her some. Even if I jolly her up and try to play with
her - she looks at me like I'm nuts

I use melatonin with mine for thunderstorms--just buy it at the grocery store. The tablets are 3 mg each. It doesn't make them butt-wagging happy, but
does seem to take the edge off of their nervousness/fear.
Does turning the TV or music up help at all? I dread this event. Next week in the paper/Craigslist there will be multiple notice of lost dogs, who "ran off during the fireworks". Bring your dogs in the house, people! Sorry for the tangent. I hope you can find something to calm Lily. |

Oh, I so understand. Jasper will be totally miserable the next few days. Melatonin is no help. Thanks for the reminder about the anxiety wrap - I'll get
mine out and try that. But, between the storms and the fireworks it's going to be a long few evenings.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but can you tell me a bit more about this melatonin? Do you give it to the dogs before or after the feared stimulus (in
our case, thunder storms and fireworks)?

You give it before, if possible. It's helpful if it has time to get into their system before the storm or fireworks starts.

I have valium for Sammie. it really helps.
I let him sit on my lap and pet him but I also try not to validate the fear. like if there is a boom and he growls I stop petting him. petting starts again when he stops. I'll be glad when it's over. My town lets people buy & set off fireworks for 10 days. every year I swear I need to do something to change this. somebody is making a ton of money! We take our whole little family in the bedroom, turn the ac unit on high (keep the temp comfortable) and go to bed. The noise seems to help Lily settle.
